Meta begins testing ads on Threads

Threads takes its first step into advertising

Meta has officially begun testing ads on Threads, its fast-growing social app with over 300 million monthly active users. This marks a major shift for the platform, evolving from a purely social network into a powerful new space for digital advertising.

Easy integration with Meta Ads Manager

The rollout allows advertisers to seamlessly extend existing campaigns across Meta platforms by simply checking a box in Ads Manager. The first ad placements will include image ads displayed within users’ home feeds.

Key features of the pilot program

  • Limited rollout: Ads are currently only available to a small group of advertisers.
  • Feed-based format: Ads appear natively between posts in the Threads home feed.

High brand affinity: Internal data shows that 75% of Threads users already follow at least one business.

Why this matters for advertisers

Early adopters stand to benefit by reaching an engaged audience on a platform that’s still in its growth phase. With minimal creative adjustments required, businesses can gain:

  • Broader campaign reach
  • First-mover advantage

Valuable audience insights before the platform becomes more competitive

Meta’s approach to brand safety

Meta is placing a strong focus on brand safety and user experience. Advertisers will have access to existing safety tools, including:

  • AI-powered inventory filters to control ad placement
  • User controls such as ad skipping and reporting

The company has stated it will closely monitor feedback and performance metrics throughout the test.

What’s next for Threads ads

Meta plans a gradual expansion of Threads advertising. User engagement, feedback, and performance data will shape how and when additional ad formats and targeting options roll out in the future.

The bigger picture

Threads is rapidly evolving from a Twitter alternative into a full-fledged advertising platform. By leveraging Meta’s robust ad infrastructure, Threads offers a low-barrier way for brands to test new audiences without overhauling their strategy.
